"The importance of social media to me as part of the youth and as a Filipino"

Social media can be define in various ways. It can be in a form of entertainment, communication, expression, and supporting individuals or organizations. In social media, anyone can do what they want. People are free to express their own feeling and opinions through social platforms. Traditionally, our ancestors would usually use radio, television, telephones, and letters to send and receive information. Their way of entertaining and communicating is very costly and inefficient. Compared to our generation, things like sharing of information and entertainment is uncomplicated and doesn't involve much money. Our identity might not be secured, but people would always tend to choose being in social media and interacting with people rather than staying low and out-dated. In short, social media made our lives easier and faster. Social media has lessen economic barriers and made the world appear more smaller.

Social media became crucial for us youth because it is our way of escaping our problems in reality. We tend to express our feelings and emotions by posting since there are things that we aren't able to express personally to others. Posting our personal struggles to strangers felt more easier than expressing it personally to our loved ones. Us youths most likely depend our lives on technology that unknowingly we start to drift away from our friends and family. Sometimes social media for us is also a tool to make our lives more comfortable and beautiful when in reality it is the total opposite. We tend to make our lives more lively making people think that our lives is perfect compared to them.

What we mostly see on social media are models and celebrities with perfect bodies, beautiful faces, huge houses, and living as perfectly as they want others to see. We tend to compare ourselves to them. In order for us to improve this this toxic mindset, we should be an advocate to people who are not confident and unsatisfied with their own lives. They should learn to love and be contended what they have. Because there are things they have and others don't have.  Since social media tend to shape our opinions. Why not use social media to inspire others?

Some people also experiences cyber bullying in social media. Whenever we experience being discriminated, we should try to educate people who are insensitive and arrogant enough to consider their targets feelings. Let us always be mindful of what we post since we don't know how it may affect other people.

In terms of security and safety, users should be aware of the harm social media can cause. Hackers that might use our identity to spread false acquisition. Let us not post any personal information that may be used against us.

Thoughts about Media and Information Literacy

Media and Information Literate is a skill that can only be acquired by people who are expose to media. Knowing that all of us are now open to different sources of information and news. Being Information Literate means having the ability to identify different types of media and understand the messages they're sending. It helps the users to analyze, access, evaluate, and create media content.

Media and Information Literacy was about advocating the present generation about media. We all know that this generation are exposed to technologies and are highly active in media. Media can bring us information about the about a current state/object, because of this the world became smaller for humans. Due to media, it is easier for us to communicate with other people around the globe, it is easy for us to remain updated about the current social issues in our economy, and it helps us entertain ourselves. That is why people today do engage in media.

Thinking that different kinds people are being exposed to media. We may not know what harm can media bought to us. Here are some ways on how to promote a better Literacy to others.

1.) All media content should be sensitive to gender and economic issues.
2.) Avoid hacking devices to gain other people's data.
3.) Never edit contents on the internet (eg. Webster dictionary).
4.) Stop scamming others for your personal gain.
5.) Never share your own personal information

METAMORPHOSIS

Teaser:

Anna was not your typical high school girl. She has two identities: 1. A drop dead gorgeous woman that most people adored in the morning. 2. A nerdy and boyish person at night. Anna was bullied when she was in middle school because of her appearance which is she had only one eyelid, acne's all around her face, hair that's always tied up in a pony tail, an oversized t-shirt, converse shoes, and huge pants. No wonder why many people despised her looks. Everybody think that she's ugly enough not to fit in into their definition of beauty. No body befriended her, not until she graduated middle school. Anna spent her whole summer on practicing how to make up. This is her own solution for her to be noticed by her peers. Anna decided to change her wardrobe into a much more girly clothes. Nobody knew about this except her family.

On her first day of school,  Anna became a talk of the school. Many people noticed her looks but neither of them remembered the Anna that the despised. She became popular in an instant, also gained some friends, and not to mention admirers. After school, she went home, removed her make up, and went outside to buy some of her favorite comic books in her favorite comic store. There she met this handsome hot guy who coincidentally got the book that she likes. But then again the hot guy turned out to be a jerk and that day she got to know his name and his name is Drew.

Anna then realized that Drew goes to the same school as her, same section, and became her own personal tutor. Will Drew know about Anna's secret identity? Which Anna will Drew learn to love? Do hearts really know what it wants? Does physical appearance matter when two hearts collide?

COCO

Image result for coco family
  • In Santa Cecilia, Mexico, Imelda Rivera was the wife of a musician who left her and their 3-year-old daughter Coco, to pursue a career in music. She banned music in the family and opened a shoe-making family business. Ninety-six years later, her great-great-grandson, 12-year-old Miguel, now lives with Coco and their family. He secretly dreams of becoming a musician like Ernesto de la Cruz, a popular actor and singer of Coco's generation. One day, Miguel inadvertently damages the photo of Coco with her parents at the center of the family ofrenda and removes it, discovering that his great-great-grandfather was holding Ernesto's famous guitar.

  • Concluding that Ernesto is his great-great-grandfather, Miguel ignores his grandmother Elena's objections and leaves to enter a talent show for the Day of the Dead. He enters Ernesto's mausoleum and steals his guitar to use in the show, but becomes invisible to everyone in the village plaza. However, he can see and be seen by his skeletal dead relatives who are visiting from the Land of the Dead for the holiday. Taking him there, they realize that Imelda cannot visit as Miguel removed her photo from the ofrenda. Discovering that he is cursed for stealing from the dead, Miguel must return to the Land of the Living before sunrise or he will become one of the dead: to do so, he must receive a blessing from a member of his family using an Aztec marigold petal that can undo the curse placed upon him by stealing Ernesto's guitar.
  • Miguel encounters Héctor, a down-on-his-luck skeleton who once played with Ernesto and offers to help Miguel reach him. In return, Héctor asks Miguel to take his photo back to the Land of the Living so he can visit his daughter before she forgets him and he disappears completely. Héctor attempts to return Miguel to his relatives, but Miguel escapes and infiltrates Ernesto's mansion, learning along the way that an old friendship between the two deteriorated before Héctor's death. Miguel soon realizes that Ernesto murdered Héctor using a poisoned drink and stole the songs he had written, passing them off as his own to become famous.

Miguel realizes that Héctor is his actual great-great-grandfather and that Coco is Héctor's daughter, the only living person who still remembers him. With the help of Dante - who turns into an alebrije - the dead Riveras find and rescue them. Miguel reveals that Héctor's decision to return home to her and Coco resulted in his death, and Imelda and Héctor reconcile. They infiltrate Ernesto's sunrise concert to retrieve Héctor's photo from Ernesto and expose his crimes. Ernesto is crushed by a falling church bell as in his previous life, but the photo falls into the water and disappears.

As the sun rises, Héctor is in danger of being forgotten by Coco and disappearing. Imelda blesses Miguel with no conditions attached so he can return to the Land of the Living, where he plays a song for Coco that Héctor wrote for her during her childhood. The song sparks her memory of Héctor and revitalizes her, and she gives Miguel the torn-out piece of the photo from the ofrenda, which shows Héctor's face. Elena reconciles with Miguel, accepting both him and music back into the family.

One year later, Miguel proudly presents the family ofrenda - featuring a photo of the now deceased Coco and the restored photo of Héctor and Imelda - to his new baby sister. Letters kept by Coco contain evidence that Ernesto stole Héctor's songs. As a result, Ernesto's legacy is destroyed and the community honors Héctor instead. In the Land of the Dead, Héctor and Imelda join Coco for a visit to the living Riveras as Miguel sings and plays for his dead and living relatives.
This movie was entitled COCO named after Miguel (main character) grandmother named Coco. My favorite character in this movie was Miguel. He was a typical mexican boy who loves music and dreams to be a musician, but due to his families belief and objections he wasn't able do so. Miguel was very dedicated to change the views of his family about musicians and made a way for him to just perform on the talent show despite of the consequence on stealing something from the dead. He was very strong and brave in facing all the challenges that was happening in his journey in the land of the dead. A heroic kid that managed to bring back his dead relatives together.

Just like Miguel I want to pursue some of my goals in life. But because of my family's traditions and belief, I wasn't able to do the things that I want. This movie gave me eagerness to reach for my dreams and grab the opportunities that I have while I'm still alive. Also this movie made me think that despite of all the challenges that you may face, your family is still there for you. Always face the consequences of your mistake because it has a  good result in the later future. The very moral lesson that I was able to learn in this movie was Family matters. Being born as a Filipino, it was very rare for us to spend time with our family. It seems hard opening up to your family about your feelings, perspectives. This movie made me encourage to speak my thoughts, at the same way showing respect to them. In this it will stronger your bond to everyone in your family.

If I were to improve the plot/ character in this movie, I would want Coco to be the main character. I want to know her side when his father left their family and how she's feeling for the past ninety six years without her father on her side. Also I was a bit cliff-hanger on Imelda's point of view after Hector left them to pursue his music career. But overall this movie made me cry several times and this movie left my heart soft, moral values that will always remain in me that I can also apply to my personal life.

PANTENE

1.) Name all the elements you see and hear.

All of their products has Pro Vitamin formula that moisturizes the your hair so that it will look shiny and healthy. Pantene was the only hair shampoo which provide this kind of treatment wherein it makes your hair healthy and shiny.

2. Where is the setting?

This was shot inside the Pantene studio where they covered all the walls with white cloth. In the middle of the place, there's a white stage that has a huge PANTENE name in the middle.

3.) Since this was shot using the camera, try to descern the language of the camera by listing the angles (long shot, medium close up, close up) and the corresponding scene that it tries to capture?

The placement of the camera intended to capture a close up shot in the beginning. Then long shot and the rest was close up.

4.) What is the beginning, middle, and end?

The beginning of the commercial: Selena was the main character of this commercial wearing a white dress and her hair is curly and silky. There's no music playing in it's background. While walking in the white aile, Selena talks about using the blow drier that makes her hair looks dry. After this, the camera seems to be a long medium shot wherein she was standing on a white stage with a hair blower facing on the side of her that made her hair fly away.

The middle: The middle of the commercial is where she introduced the product which is Pantene. Saying that the Pantene shampoo was the reason why her hair still looks healthy despite the heat and damaging effects of using blow drier. The Pro V formula was shown in that shot, which locks a moisture inside her hair that makes it strong.

The end: The ending was, there was no effects of 100 blow dry remain in her hair. She flips her hair and shares how much she loved the product knowing that the shampoo made her hair strong and looks moisturized.  This commercial ends with a tagline 'Strong is beautiful'

5.) A commercial is always selling a product. How is this commercial selling its product? what is its most potent way of selling the product?

What made this product interesting to the audiences was, they chose Selena Gomez as their main in this commercial. The makers of Pantene really knows how to attract their audiences. What made this commercial interesting was the visual effects and the props that has been used. But for me the most potent way on selling this product was they should add more people that can serve as the background behind Selena. They should also pick an area which is more unique and colorful because the setting that they picked was dull for me.

6) Are there memorable lines or visual effects? What makes it memorabe?
The memorable line for this product is "Strong is Beautiful". While the memorable effects was the blow dry wherein it made some of Selena's hair flew. I also liked how they made her hair more silky and shiny because this urged me to buy their shampoo.

THE LAST HOPE OF THE NEXT GENERATION

The video that I watched talks about the destruction of our nature. Wherein the future generations are the ones who will suffer because of the present mistakes that we make. We are now experiencing climate change due to the destruction of our ozone layers and the main reason of it's wreckage was pollution caused by factories, vehicles, and fossil fuels. We people destroyed almost 50% of the trees every minute for the last few years. Without knowing it's effect to our environment. Maybe some of us knew but we rather stay aside the consequences because of the present benefits that we can gain like money. We thought that we made progress on developing our world but rather it was the total destruction. We never realized it's benefits until we destroyed everything of it. People will realize all of this when we can't restore any of it in the future. Animal are becoming extinct because of the loss of habitats due to forest fires, destruction of trees, and some of them got killed, skinned to death for the production of clothes. This is kind of sad knowing that the future generations will never get the chance on experiencing the lives that we have wherein there are trees, flowers are blooming, birds are chirpping, plants that can be made as medicine, fresh waters, and breathing a fresh air.

The message was sent through a video created by a person who realized that our world was sick. He made a video that shows every horrible things that the mankind has done to our environment. He stayed on Africa for about a week, and there he saw how people destroy the trees for money. Almost 50% of the trees got destroyed and many animals lost it's habitat because of it. Let me give you an example: Does some of you know the Amazon Dessert? It was once called an Amazon rainforest. Did you see how much it CHANGED for the past years? Look at HOW MANY ANIMALS may have lived in there knowing how HUGE THAT RAINFOREST is. Oh right. None of the cared about a single one of them. The trees? that are the main reasons why we are still breathing a fresh air and provides medicine? We never deserved all of this in the first place and yet we continued to destroy all of them.

The audiences that the guy are referring to are us people who lives in this current generation. I believe that  we are the root of all the destruction that we made for the past years in this earth. Examples of these are: 1) Killing the animals. This problem may lead to the extinct of some species and  2) Putting down trees. Which can cause either a flood or soil drought. 3) Building factories that let’s out bad chemicals through the air. 4) Turning our waste into the ocean which causes water pollution. Water pollution are the number one cause why the fishes and other sea creatures die. We bought the destruction and we should restore it. In order for us to survive, we should let the nature revived. Betraying nature means betraying ourselves. Destroying nature means destroying us and our children. A little reminder for us is that NATURE SUSTAINS OUR NEEDS AND OUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT.

Sending this message is very effective in a ways that this made me realize a bunch of things. This made me encourage to participate some of the organizations that helps to restore our nature. It is quite sad knowing that we can only fix the trees and oceans, not the animals that are extinct. But let us look at the positive side, that there is still hope on saving some of them. All we need is to protect them by sharing this awareness to other people for them to have more knowledge on what is happening to our present world. May this video serves as an eye opening and give hope to the people who are willing to help us restore what we've lost.

The title of the video is "DEAR FUTURE GENERATIONS: SORRY". Which I highly recommend for you to watch this awareness especially if you are the kind of person who cares for our nature. Always remember that NATURE IS US because WE ARE ALREADY PART of it.

Media and Information

                                                                What is MEDIA?

Media is a form of interactions towards other people and this has been a past time for youths. It is a form of interaction because media makes it easier for them to connect with their relatives and overseas families. Unlike in the past it is hard for us to communicate with our family overseas because media and technologies hasn’t been invented yet. Instead of using media, people used to send letters to their relatives who are in abroad which took either weeks or months before they receive it. Over years it has been a form of communication. We can meet other people in different countries and befriended them.

The most popular kind of media was social media. Wherein people likes to update their posts on applications like facebook, twitter, instagram, etc. They like to share the things that they have and likes to update people on what they are doing. Social media is a way of socializing with other people in different parts of the world. Many people are willing to get know you. Social media makes the world looks smaller.

Media has been way of entertainment for people especially youths which means this has been their past time. Mostly they entertain their self with media whenever they get bored and youth tend to express their feelings and ideas through media. This simple things makes some of them happy. Media also provides you updates about our society and news that are related with celebrities, politics, economy, etc.

Media and information literacy is extremely important for youth in a way that they can learn the most basic on using media, because today’s generation are more likely involved with technologies.  This subject may help them to gain more experiences and knowledge about medias. Media and Information Literacy develops their creativeness and critical thinking through the use of technologies. With this subject they will be able to compromise their skills and knowledge about medias and it's histories. Now that students from now has no idea where the origin of media came from and where did it started.

Let's talk about the disadvantages of medias to the youths today. Medias are not safe to use when it comes to sharing your personal information. There are people who have bad intentions to others. Media is unsafe because there are people who makes dummy accounts which they use for black mailings, stalkings, bashings, etc. They may use your identity anytime if your personal informations are not in privacy. If you are asking if how will they get your personal identity? They get it through the use of hacking, in which they hack your account and if ever they see something interesting about you like wealth. They can also use your family as a way to destroy your life.

Tips on how to improve on Media and Literacy
